Marley’s Monsters ECO-BOUTIQUE AT 5TH ST MARKET

Commercial/Retail Project - Eugene, Oregon

Marley’s Monsters Eco-Boutique translates the mission of a woman-owned sustainable manufacturer into a vibrant 960-square-foot flagship retail space. Founded in 2013, the company creates reusable goods that replace disposables in daily life; the boutique was designed to embody this ethos through sustainability, craft, and community engagement.

Located in the pedestrian-oriented 5th Street Market, the shop accommodates a wide product range, a refill station, and a customization area within a compact footprint. Custom plywood shelving, modular floor fixtures, and repurposed displays provide flexibility while conserving resources. Neutral finishes allow the colorful merchandise to take center stage, balancing density with clarity.

At the back, a striking feature wall of fabric scraps salvaged from the company’s own production process transforms waste into art and storytelling. Delivered on a modest budget, the project maximized creativity and economy by reusing fixtures, employing local materials, and integrating daylight to reduce energy use.

The Eco-Boutique demonstrates how small projects can achieve design excellence, weaving together sustainability, adaptability, and aesthetic delight. More than a retail destination, it serves as a model of how architecture and interior design can advance a healthy, just, resilient, and equitable built environment.
