Lamella Rocking Chair

A collaboration with open studio collective.

The Lamella Rocker cleverly combines materials to create a sophisticated chair with an uncluttered visual profile. The basic structure is comprised of laser-cut sheet steel plate sandwiched between two layers of Ash-veneered Apple-ply. The steel substructure is powdercoated white, and is selectively revealed to showcase the interplay of the materials. The subtly-figured wood gives a visual and tactile richness to the piece, while also increasing the surface area at points of contact with the floor and the user. The use of sheet goods and CNC fabrication allows the potential for marketing as a “product,” while the Pendleton wool seat and back provide an opportunity for personalization and customization.
